B.C.'s EV charger rebate program

CleanBC Go Electric rebates for homes and workplaces

BC Hydro works with the Government of B.C. and FortisBC to offer provincial rebates for the purchase and installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers and infrastructure to get homes and workplaces across B.C. ready for EVs. There are currently no rebate offers available, but check back in April for program updates.

This program is part of the province's CleanBC plan to make clean transportation more affordable and accessible for British Columbians. Visit Go Electric to learn more about the plan and read the full strategy.

This program is currently closed

Funding for this program expired on February 28, 2021 and applications are no longer accepted. New funding has been applied for and a decision is expected when the Government of B.C. announces the budget on April 20. If new funding is approved, we'll begin accepting applications again. Check back for updates.

If you’re a new or existing applicant who didn’t submit a final application by the deadline, learn about your options.

Single family homes

If the program reopens, it would offer single-family homes a rebate of up to 50% of the purchase and installation costs of an eligible Level 2 EV charger, to a maximum of $350 to $700 (exact rebate amount subject to funding approval). This includes duplexes or townhouses with private garages or dedicated parking.

Apartment and condo buildings

If the program reopens, it would offer two provincial rebate options to help apartment and condo buildings get ready to support EVs.

EV Ready rebates

You could apply for these rebates together to streamline the EV-related upgrades to your building, or you could apply for them one at a time as your project progresses.

  • EV Ready plan rebate: A rebate of up to $3,000 for the creation of an EV Ready plan – a professional strategy for your building to make at least one parking space per residential unit EV Ready.
  • EV Ready infrastructure rebate: A rebate of up to $600 per parking space to install the electrical infrastructure required to implement your EV Ready plan, to a maximum of $80,000.
  • EV charger rebate: A rebate of up to $1,400 to $3,400 per charger (exact rebate amount subject to funding approval) to purchase and install Level 2 networked EV chargers to implement your building’s EV Ready plan, to a maximum of $14,000.

Standalone EV charger rebate

EV charger rebate: A rebate of up to $2,000 to $4,000 per charger (exact rebate amount subject to funding approval) to purchase and install Level 2 networked EV chargers at your building’s residential parking spaces, to a maximum of $14,000.

Features

Load management: Allows multiple EV chargers to share the same electrical circuit, allowing the charging power to be distributed across each charger.

Networked: A networked charging station that is connected to a central system via internet communication such as open protocol (e.g. OCPP, OpenADR or other) or a proprietary system (must be connected to a network for minimum of two years).

Multiple ports: Allows multiple vehicles to charge at the same time.

CSA Certification: Tested and certified electric vehicle charging and components by CSA Group.

cETL Certification: Compliant with North American safety standards and tested/certified by Intertek.

Breaker Current

Every circuit breaker has specified amperage (amount of current). The rating is the labelled on the breaker. Understanding your electrical service and panel is important in determining the type of EV charger you can support.
